A week in Ohrid

Ohrid or the former Lihnid, the city of light or the European Jerusalem is the most beautiful town in Macedonia and is located in the southwest part of the country. Ohrid is famous for the Ohrid Lake, the biggest lake in Macedonia.

The Ohrid region has untouched nature and is under UNESCO. An interesting fact is that there are 365 churches in Ohrid, so you can visit a different church every day during the year.

It’s best to visit Ohrid during the summer because Ohrid is teeming with tourists that time of the year and the city is incredibly alive.

Organize your trip and… WELCOME TO OHRID! There are sooo many things that are waiting for you to see them.

Turning to the question of accommodation, I want to offer you a magnificent, comfortable place that costs next to nothing. The place where we’ve been staying is called ‘Vila Frasoro’ and is located in the center of the town.

The place will make you fall in love with it at the very beginning. It has everything you need and the owners are very hospitable and amiable people who will help you with whatever you need.

In the evenings it’s most lively in the Old Ohrid Bazaar. There is a wealth of stores and restaurants where you can meet many people from different places and enjoy late-night shopping. Nevertheless, if you don’t like crowds, you can simply walk by the coastline and breathe the fresh lake air.

The old town has a special majesty which will steal your heart. Walking along the narrow streets among the houses with outstanding style and architecture will give you an indescribable feeling that will stay in your memories.

One of Ohrid's most famous historic buildings is The Robevi House which is located in the old town.

If you want to stare at the stars or watch the most beautiful sunsets, the perfect place for these beauties to be seen is Kaneo, one of the most famous churches in Ohrid, together with the church of Saints Clement and Panteleimon. You can also visit the church of Saint Sofia.

From there you will see the whole town with the lake and the view is… just wonderful. You can also visit Samoil’s fortress from which you will absorb the same breathtaking picture.

The most interesting part of the vacation for me was the boat trip. The boat in which we went is called Armada and I can say that it's an incredibly comfortable boat in which you can enjoy yourself to the fullest. Drinking your Rafaello Coffee, hearing and looking into the waves, feeling the gentle breeze, you’ll feel like you’ve found heaven on Earth.

When in Ohrid, you must visit the place called St. Naum in which a monastery of the same name is located. In the monastery, St. Naum is buried and it’s believed that you can still hear his heart bumping.

One more amazing place - The Bay of Bones. It’s now a museum on water where prehistoric people once lived. You can see the specific houses made from wood and straw and their interior with different remains.

When it comes to the beaches, let me give you some recommendations. If you want huge crowds with young people and parties on the beach, then Jungle beach is the perfect location for you. Cocktails, loud music and endless fun. Gradiste beach 1 is also a good choice.

However, if you want to relax your brain in perfect silence, just hearing the waves and resting your eyes in the endless blue, then you are to be on Trpejca or Ljubanista beach. These beaches are perfect for those who have small children. St. Naum beach is also a perfect choice for people of every generation.

If you want to hydrate yourself or have some lunch, there are cafes and restaurants on every step. Just make a wish and you are in your imaginary place.

Drink your coffee, eat your food, splash in the water, walk around town, do some shopping, have some sleep, and your vacation cannot be better…

Whoop it up!
