Budapest in winter
Experiencing Budapest in winter is an authentic fairytale which arrests every soul into its charming prison. The enchanting atmosphere will guide you towards the Christmas spirit and will cause myriad smiles.
The city is a true art painted by proficient hands. The architecture does not leave space for disinterest, you will be enthralled by the glamour of every piece that calls you to delve into its splendour.
A homogenization of gothic, neoclassical and baroque styles will meet you and believe me, it will be a real pleasure. This historical beauty cannot be rebuilt nowadays, it is engraved in those special times and today is just maintained as it once was.
Budapest is formed from two cities which are on opposite sides of the Danube river: Buda and Pest. These two cities together with Óbuda (Old Buda) created the capital of Hungary.
While Pest is more urbanized and known for its vibrant cultural life, Buda offers panoramic views of the city.
Going towards the centre, you will come across one of the main attractions in Budapest - the Fashion Street. Filled with elegance, extravagance and refinement, this pedestrian street will win you over immediately after you make the first step.
Your eyes will meet trendy boutiques and a plethora of fashion brands. This street is decorated with special dedication once winter comes so you will feel incredible magnificence.
Near Fashion Street, you can also visit Vörösmarty Square named after the Hungarian poet, Sándor Vörösmarty. This square, like many other squares in Budapest hosts Christmas Market. You can enjoy there drinking mulled wine, hot chocolate or tasting some traditional Hungarian food.
In this central area, you can also visit Deák Ferenc Square which is another place for various performances throughout the year, especially during winter. This square also hosts a Christmas Market, so expect nothing but the smell of tasty sweets and flawless enjoyment.
The Hungarian Parliament is another famous attractive building in Budapest since it is one of the largest parliamentary buildings in the world. It is built in Neo-Gothic style and the construction lasted for incredible 20 years. It has an impressive height of 96 meters, a length of about 268 meters and 691 rooms.
If you want to see things from another perspective, you are to be on a cruise along the most fascinating river in Europe - the beautiful blue Danube. You can go on a night cruise and will see the most famous buildings illuminated.
Your enjoyment will be accompanied by quiet music, (we listened to the Hungarian dance No.5, one of my favourite) and you can raise a toast by drinking champagne.
Another famous square built in neoclassical style is the Heroes' square which is dedicated to the Hungarian heroes.
One more interesting landmark in the city is the castle where no one actually lived. It is named Vajdahunyad Castle and was built for the 1896 Millennium Exhibition. It abounds with extraordinary beauty but was never used as a residence.
The most impressive place for me in the city was Buda Castle Hill also known as The Royal Palace. It is a complex of several iconic landmarks such as the Mathias Church and the Fisherman's Bastion.
This place will cast a spell on you and your mind will be enthralled by the picturesque view of the beautiful blue Danube flowing across the amazing Budapest.
The Buda Castle served as a residence for the Hungarian kings. The Mathias Church which is within the complex was the place where many coronations and weddings happened.
This city is a place that beautifies, unites and offers positive vibes.
Budapest is a dream that you have with your eyes open!😍
