Magical Rome - a place where an entire new world speaks to you!

Have you ever been enchanted? So enchanted that you no longer know where you are?

Oh, yes... This will definitely happen when you come to the place referred to as... ROMA!

Roma is the place that will cast you a mind-blowing spell, magic that interferes with reality so that the nuances are almost one and the same.

Walking around the streets where Renaissance, Antiquity, Baroque and modern architecture wave at you, your psyche will try to convince you that your body is floating in a completely different universe!

Ciao belle persone!

Our first visit was the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II. The square is named after the first king of Italy and was built in the 19th century. It is like a park since it abounds with greenery, palm trees, flowers and also a beautiful fountain.

It is a place that is teeming with people every day but don't worry, you can always find a place on the grass to relax.

In front of the park, there is a place where you can find an Italian gelato or ice cream as some say. Take the gelato with you and enjoy the beautiful flavour in the beautiful view.

We continued to another square named Giardini di Piazza Dante. As the name itself suggests, this place is named after the Italian poet Dante Alighieri. It is a small square where you can rest your eyes.

The night came and our adventure led us to one of the most famous things in Rome and in the world. And what else could it be if not the Colosseum?! One of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

A remarkable, extraordinary, iconic amphitheatre that will certainly stop your breath. Built by the Ancient people, this masterpiece was once used for gladiatorial contests, animal hunts as well as sea battles.

Holding between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators, this magnificent structure deservedly bears the name of the largest amphitheatre in the world. Your head will be raised all the time and your eyes will not let you get enough of this view so easily. The Colosseum requires words beyond amazement so it can only be described as Mary Poppins would say - supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Another must-see place in Rome is the famous Fontana Di Trevi. What you should know is that there is an unimaginable crowd, especially during the day. It's also crowded at night but at least the Sun won't burn you and you will feel the smell of the fresh colourful water. In other words, you can breathe there at night! If you also go in summer and don't like crowds, it's best for you to go early in the morning.

Other than that, the fountain is staggeringly marvellous! It's designed in baroque style and what you mustn't forget is to toss a coin because it's believed that doing so will guarantee your return to Rome.

The water in the fountain comes from the Roman aqueduct known as Aqua Virgo and the fountain itself is made of travertine stone which is the reason for its refined elegance.

The name Trevi comes from the Latin word “trivium“ which means a meeting of three roads so, the fountain is located at the junction of three streets. Like the Colosseum, Fontana Di Trevi is also awe-inspiring both day and night!

We are moving to one of the most famous steps in the world, Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti or Spanish steps. It's another picturesque landmark in Rome that you shouldn't miss.

There are 135 stairs that lead to the famous Piazza di Spagna. There is a beautiful baroque fountain which is just another place for rest and inspiration.

An interesting fact about Rome is that there are several obelisks which are Egyptian monuments with a pyramid-like top. They served various purposes like urban planning, religious beliefs, decoration, markers for specific locations etc. There is also one on Piazza di Spagna.

We are moving to the place that had the largest dome in the world for over a thousand years, the Pantheon. The Pantheon was once used as a temple for all Roman gods and was later converted into Christian church.

A fascinating thing about the Pantheon is its opening at the top. It brings light and an additional natural effect to the building. There are 24 small holes on the floor set in such a way that the rain that will come inside from the opening will go directly under the floor.

When in Rome you must also visit the Piazza Navona. It's an immense square with three jaw-dropping fountains. It's a popular place where all the art is mixed and surrounded by elegant cafes and restaurants. It's also located in the heart of Rome and I can say that Rome indeed has a big heart.

There are so many things to see in this eternal city that you should stay there for at least five days in order to perceive most of the beauty.

For additional recreation, you can walk by the river Tiber which was important for transportation during Ancient times. This river with its beautiful bridges that connect different parts of the city, adds a special charm to the majestic town.

While walking by the river Tiber, you will get to the Castel Sant'Angelo. At the top of the building, there is a statue of an angel and according to a legend an angel appeared on the roof of the castle, signalling the end of a plague in Rome. Castel Sant'Angelo is the central location in Den Brown's book “Angels and Demons“ in which many mysteries happen.

We also went just a little bit outside of the centre to see the Pyramid of Cestius. It is in Egyptian style built in the 1st century BC and is 36 meters tall. It is built as a tomb for Gaius Cestius Epulo, a Roman magistrate.

We also visited Vatican, the smallest independent state in the world located in Rome. Vatican City is the residence of the Pope and serves as the centre of the Catholic Church.

When in Vatican, what you must experience is the magical art in the Vatican Museums. Your eyes will be filled with classical sculptures, Renaissance paintings, art by the most famous artists of all times, art directly from the hands of Raphael, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Bernini...

And when you come to the Sistine Chapel, you will just say...WOW! The celling on the Sistine Chapel is an incredible masterpiece by Michelangelo and is one of the most celebrated works of art in the world.

However, it's forbidden to take pictures in the Sistine Chapel, so you won't find pictures of it in my blog. Nevertheless, in the Vatican Museums, you are allowed to take photos. The tour lasts 2 hours since the Vatican Museums are indeed enormous.

Back in Rome, pass through Porta Pia and a bit further south of it get to yet another amazing square known as Piazza del Popolo. Porta del Popolo is an ancient city gate that once served as a grand entrance to Rome for travellers coming from the north. Since in Rome there are over 2000 fountains, there are fountains on this square as well.

There are also a lot of squares which you must visit and just another one is Piazza Venecia. There is a grand white marble monument that is dominating the square and was built to honour Vittorio Emanuele II. The square is named so after a Renaissance palace that served as a residence for a Venetian cardinal.

In Rome, you can find the most luxurious shops and brands so you can either buy something or just do a window shopping like we did. If you want to be stunned by just another wonderful view of the city, go to the La Rinascente Mall, get to the rooftop and you will be nicely surprised. You'll touch the whole big town with your small hand.

We had another interesting experience in the Museo delle Illusioni. You will perceive a lot of optical illusions that will make you laugh and will offer a lot of fun. You can take creative photos that will remind you of this beautiful experience.
